The South East London Diabetic Eye Screening Programme is one of the largest eye screening programmes in the country, offering screening to over 100,000 patients. The multi-disciplinary team includes nurses, optometrists and specialist screeners qualified with the Diploma in Health Screening.
Our programme optometrists undertake a variety of patient facing and office based work including slit lamp retinal examinations, assessment of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scans and grading of digital retinal images as well supporting the highest standards of clinical governance via audit and quality assurance activities.
We currently have vacancies for specialist optometrists based within clinics across South East London with occasional travel to Guy’s hospital. The roles are part-time; however, we are also interested to hear from those wishing to work full time.
The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic professional who is comfortable working independently or as part of a team and able to deliver the highest standards of patient care. The screening programme is an ideal step for clinically experienced optometrists wishing to develop new skills in the fields of clinical governance and service improvement
Ideally we are looking for optometrists who already possess the Diploma in Health Screening (or City and Guilds Diploma in Retinal Screening) although we will consider applicants yet to undertake the Diploma who demonstrate a passion for developing specialist knowledge and skills in screening.
