Specialist Clinical Research Optometrist
This academic optometry post based at the Oxford Eye Hospital. It is funded by Oxford Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). Full time or part time job share considered.
The post gives a rare opportunity to work as part of the dynamic clinical research team at the Oxford Eye Hospital, with strong association with the University of Oxford through the lead Professor MacLaren. The university provides access to excellent professional development resources.
Oxford is at the forefront of ground-breaking research to develop treatments for inherited retinal degenerations; this post is an integral part of this research programme. It will involve working with other centres and organisations as part of a multidisciplinary team in order to accelerate progress in this novel area of research.
The successful candidate will be expected to take part in all aspects of developing innovative ways of assessing changes in vision function in patients undergoing gene therapy or stem cell treatment for inherited retinal diseases- as well as working on other projects such as electronic retinal implant surgery and specialist cataract surgery.
Once in post, the appointee would also be expected to take a lead in developing his/her own research profile within the themes of the department. There will be opportunities to present work at conferences. It is expected, if experience is appropriate, that the appointee may be put forward for an Honorary Senior Lecturer status with the University of Oxford and would have a role in the supervision of MSc/PhD Students.
