UWE Bristol is an ambitious university. Together, our people are working hard to advance knowledge, inspire people and transform futures. We are looking for people with the skills and ambition to help us achieve those aims.
The Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences at the University of the West of England is looking for an exceptional individual to lead a new and exciting optometry programme and be part of the future in its teaching and research activities. You will join a visionary department (Department of Allied Health Professions) and, in order to fulfil our aims, will be dynamic, adaptable, innovative and creative. There will also be opportunities to develop and contribute to the wider aspirations of the University.
The role will involve designing, leading and teaching on an undergraduate optometry programme in the heart of the South West of England. Specific responsibilities will include the programme design and preparation of teaching materials, course planning and delivery, assessment and working closely with local and regional external optometry partners and the professional body. Driving an innovative research culture and best practice for practice orientated learning and achievement also form key aspects of the role.
It is anticipated that you will have a high level of insight into contemporary optometry practice and will have experience of teaching and assessment in higher, further or continuing education or in clinical practice. Knowledge of the contemporary theories and concepts that underpin optometry practice and education is essential. You must be registered and practising as an optometrist on the General Council’s (GOC) Professional Register (or equivalent if your current position is international), have achieved a Master’s degree in a health/education related subject and possess strong evidence of continuing professional development related to their current role. Additionally you will hold a recognised teacher’s qualification or be willing to work towards one.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop a vision for optometry education and training within the south west region, helping to shape future eye care in a contemporary health care landscape.
Clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service will be required for this position.
