Scottish independent Cameron Optometry has joined the Hakim Group.

Optometrist and managing director of Cameron Optometry, Ian Cameron (pictured), said he was “really excited” about the business’ future with the group.

He explained: “I was increasingly seeing some of the best practices in the country joining Hakim Group, which really piqued my interest. I’ve got many more years ahead of me in terms of my ambitions within this industry, so it was really refreshing when talking to some of the other practice owners who had made the move and seeing how they had managed to drive their practices forward.”

Based in Edinburgh, Cameron joined the practice in 2005 and took over as managing director in 2011 following his father Donald Cameron’s retirement from the business.

Speaking to OT about joining the Hakim Group, Cameron said he feels “there is a ceiling beyond which you cannot really develop a single site independent practice,” adding: “Being part of a larger group offers the chance to grow the practice beyond those limitations, which is an exciting prospect.”

When asked about short-term goals for the business within the Hakim Group, he said: “I think there are exciting opportunities in shared care and advanced practice that are very difficult to harness as a single practice, but I’m hoping to be able develop with the support of a larger group.”

Speaking about Cameron Optometry joining its portfolio, head of business development at Hakim Group, Luke Wren, said: “Cameron Optometry is one of Scotland’s leading eye care specialists with a team that is widely regarded as one of the most experienced, highly qualified and awarded in the industry. The practice has a strong foundation with a proud history spanning over half a century and we look forward to helping ensure the next chapter in its continued evolution is even more successful.”
