Valli Opticians founder receives business award

The founder and managing director of Valli Opticians, Moin Valli, has been named ‘Business Person of The Year 2021’ in the Examiner YorkshireLive Business Awards.

The awards seek to celebrate individuals that are “driving the region’s firms forward,” recognising their contribution to the local and national economy.

Commenting on the achievement, Valli said: “As there are no nominations or shortlist for this particular category, it came as a shock on the night. However, I am extremely proud to have been recognised in this way by local business leaders and humbled to have won the award.”

Valli previously received the award for ‘Young Entrepreneur of the year’ in 2013.

Reflecting on the journey of the business, Valli said: “This award is as much for my wife Rachel as it is for me. I am lucky that we have very contrasting qualities, yet together we have always made a pretty formidable team.”

Valli Opticians was established by Valli and Rachel, in Huddersfield in 2005. The business now has branches across Yorkshire and the Northwest.

In February, Valli opened University Valli Opticians in partnership with the University of Huddersfield, in a collaboration suggested to be the first of its kind in optometry education.
