An independent opticians in Barrow, Cumbria has been recognised for its dedication to its community during the pandemic.

Conlons of Barrow Opticians and Hearing Care was recently awarded a Cumbria Business Innovation Special Performance Certificate by High Sheriff Julie Barton.

Nominated by the public, recipients of the award were described as businesses that have ‘innovated, supported others and demonstrated great resilience’ during the last 12 months.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Conlons of Barrow Opticians and Hearing Care, which is part of the Hakim Group, has delivered glasses and contact lenses to vulnerable members of the community, and provided an online purchasing service for spectacles via its website. In addition, the independent provided emergency appointments.

Practice manager at Conlons of Barrow Opticians and Hearing Care, Lisa Kassell, said: “It’s great for the team to get some recognition for the hard work they have put in, working under difficult circumstances but continuing to serve our patients as best as we can, while maintaining a happy face under our Personal Protective Equipment. It’s a pleasure to be a part of this team.

“We’re really proud to have received this award and be a part of a community which has shown so much togetherness this past year.”

“Opticians have really shown how important we are to the general health system and I think we’ve really proved our worth this year, and that’s down to the dedication of everyone in the industry,” Kassell added.
