Specsavers continues to provide urgent and essential care

Most of the multiple’s practices remain open for urgent and essential care, Specsavers has confirmed


Specsavers has confirmed that “almost all” of its partners have made the decision to keep their practices open in order to provide urgent and essential care to patients during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

The multiple explained that its teams have focused on providing support for key workers through the supply of glasses, contact lenses and hearing aids to health and care workers, police officers, lorry drivers and others.

Practices have also been reaching out to customers who cannot come into a store and have been mailing out and providing home delivery options for glasses, contact lenses and hearing aids.

Sharing insight into the types of cases that its optometrists are dealing with, Specsavers highlighted the work of optometry director at its Bishopbriggs practice, Neil Drain, who recently removed a foreign body from the eye of a 10-month-old baby, adding that this type of work has “helped to keep patients away from hospital.”

Clinical service director at Specsavers, Giles Edmonds, said: “We are incredibly grateful to our partners and store colleagues for providing essential and urgent eye and hearing care where it is most needed at this incredibly difficult time.”

“The situation changes every day and we have been pulling out all the stops to support our partners and make sure they have the information and guidance they need on every aspect of remaining open for care,” he added.
