Specsavers has launched an online service allowing UK customers to purchase spectacles online for the first time.
While the multiple already offers contact lens sales online, it explained that the new development will allow “anyone with a current ophthalmic prescription to purchase glasses online.”
The introduction of the online offering to the UK follows a similar service that the multiple offers in Australia and the Netherlands.
UK trading director for Specsavers, Chris Carter, said: “Opening our online store is a game-changer for our customers. We know they increasingly want more choice about how they shop with us. So providing high-quality products and great customer service is another way we are making buying glasses even easier.”
Specsavers highlighted that the service has been developed and tested “in close cooperation” with joint venture partners.
Through the online purchase journey, customers will be asked to name their local practice, with sales being allocated to that store. The selected practice will then be responsible for supporting customers with any questions about the purchase, checking pupil distance and the fit of the new glasses, as well as returns and aftercare.
The multiple confirmed that it would send spectacles out in environmentally friendly packaging and that customers are able to return purchases to their local practice or by post up to 90 days after purchase.
