Netherton Eye Centre supports local charity fundraiser Speedo Mick
The Merseyside-based independent opticians has provided Mick Cullen with frames for his 1000-mile sponsored walk
The practice, which is part of the Hakim Group, provided Michael Cullen with an eye test as well reading glasses and Oakley sunglasses when he visited the practice during a break from his charity challenge.
Mr Cullen was forced to take a break after completing the first half of the challenge due to a muscle tear to his calf. However, he restarted the walk from Ormskirk on 18 January.
To date Mr Cullen, who is known locally as Speedo Mick due to his Everton-branded swimming trunks, has raised over £156,000 for Leave the light on, a charity that runs community projects for people who feel isolated.
Practice director at Netherton Eye Centre, Tracey Tennant, said: “Mick is such an infectious character, so it is a real pleasure to have a local hero pay us a visit at the practice. Providing him with free sunglasses and reading glasses is the least we can do to help him on his journey, and we hope the sunglasses in particular will provide him with the protection he needs on his walk.”
