Glasses emojis to get makeover

Specsavers is working with the emoji brand to launch new icons

The glasses emoji could be about to get a new look thanks to a partnership between Specsavers and the emoji brand.

A total of four new icons will represent glasses as “chic, not geek,” with designs including a red cat’s eye frame and a smart tortoiseshell style.

Social media manager at Specsavers, Lucy Abbott, explained: “The only emoji icons with glasses as it stands are the geek and granny, which doesn’t fully represent all glasses wearers.”

“Glasses have become a key fashion statement, so we want to celebrate this with a new emoji. This is about being proud to wear glasses and we thank everyone who voted on our social channels,” she added.

A public-vote for the favourite glasses emoji was held on social media and Specsavers is now negotiation to get the new designs included on mobile keyboards.

CEO and founder of the emoji company, Marco Hüsges, said: “It is great to see that our brand and icons are sparking conversation both in the digital and real world. We are constantly updating our emoji brand icon library, so who knows, perhaps the new icons created for Specsavers will go live on in the near future.”
