Independent optical group invests in training to upskill staff

Laura Green, Lucy Struthers and Natasha Cornish

A Leicestershire-based independent opticians is supporting the development of its staff by enrolling three team members on a diploma with the Worshipful Company of Spectacles Makers (WCSM).

Laura Green, Lucy Struthers and Natasha Cornish, who work at branches of Edmonds & Slatter, will begin the Level 4 Diploma for Optical Assistants this autumn. On completion of the two-year distance learning course, the staff will be entitled to use the letters OA after their names.

Partner at the independent, Tim Cole, explained that the course, which is a new diploma from the WCSM, is tailored to the needs of those who aspire to become senior optical assistants.

While it is recommended that students complete between six and eight hours of distance learning per week, they will also be set a series of written assignments during the course.

“I believe they are very capable of completing the course and will continue to be amazing assets to Edmonds & Slatter,” Mr Cole said.
