Marks & Spencer (M&S) will trial optician practices at five of its UK stores this summer as part of the retailer’s store transformation programme.

The practices will be run by Galaxy Optical and branded as M&S Opticians. The locations are: Bolton, Deansgate; York, York Vangarde; Derby, Intu Derby Centre; Manchester, city centre; and London, Westfield White City (pictured).

The transformation plan includes the repositioning of its clothing and home sections in order to make best use of its space and attract new customers, M&S explained to OT.

A M&S spokesperson said: “One way we’re repositioning space is welcoming concessions into M&S stores. We’re already running a trial with Wasabi in our foodhalls and now we’re extending this programme with a five store trial of M&S Opticians.

“Working with an expert partner, Galaxy Optician Services, we’ll be carefully monitoring the trial and we look forward to hearing our customers’ feedback.”

A full clinical and retail service will be offered during the planned six month trial.

A spokesperson for Galaxy Optical Services added: “We are very much looking forward to opening the doors to our optician concessions and offering a new experience for the M&S customer. The M&S Opticians proposition is a great fit for both Galaxy and M&S.”
