Optical Express has announced that it raised over £160,000 for charity in 2017 as part of its corporate social responsibilities commitment.

The multiple worked with Sightsavers, Vision Aid Overseas, STV’s Children’s Appeal (pictured) and Macmillan Cancer Support during the year.

A total of £12,000 was raised for Sightsavers through fun runs, bake sales and employee donations. Optical Express also donated £30 to the charity for each lens replacement surgery booked between World Sight Day (12 October) and the end of November, raising £33,480.

Optical Express also ran its own campaign, Thanks a Million, which saw the multiple give over 250 emergency service workers free laser eye surgery. A total of £116,000 has been invested so far, and the total will be worth over £1 million.

CEO at Optical Express, David Moulsdale, said: “We’re delighted that the hard work of our staff this year has paid off, helping to raise over £160,000 for charitable causes.

“Our staff are just as passionate as us when it comes to charity activity and are always willing to go the extra mile to help us raise money. Whether that’s through signing up to a charity run in their local area, running a bake sale in one of our stores or even just a small donation from their own pocket.”
