Specsavers launches locum app

An app built by the multiple for self-employed practitioners is now live

Specsavers has launched a locum diary-booking app that aims to help self-employed practitioners working at the multiple to manage their work schedules across several stores.

Available for iOS and Android devices, the app offers both optical and hearing care locums real-time updates on their availability, as well as the ability to check future bookings and to be notified when a new store opportunity becomes available in line with where they want to work.

Head of Specsavers recruitment services, Rob Mould, explained: “'We recognise that self-employed professionals can be critical to a store’s optometry service, and are often the best way to deal with holiday or sickness cover. Therefore, we’ve made this substantial investment in new technology as we’re seeing more and more optometrists turn to self-employed work as a way of life, and want to make it as easy as possible for them to work with Specsavers.”

The app is managed by Specsavers’ in-house recruitment team and all locums currently registered with the recruitment service have already been sent instructions on how to access the new tool.

Within the first two days of the app going live, more than 500 locums downloaded it, Specsavers confirmed.
