High Street multiple introduces a new placement programme for students
13 October 2016
Optical Express has introduced a new placement programme to help optometry students to gain experience in the latest clinical and eye surgery techniques.
The initiative, developed in partnership with Glasgow Caledonian University, gives undergraduates are being given the opportunity to visit the multiple’s flagship Glasgow city centre practice for a half-day clinical session.
During the four-hour-long individual sessions, students will shadow a team of optometrists, ophthalmic surgeons and surgeon support optometrists, as well as observe the full patient journey.
An optometry undergraduate will visit the practice each week from now until the end of the year.
Optical Express has said that it hopes to set up similar initiatives with other institutions that offer optometry courses across the UK.
Speaking about the programme, professional development manager at Optical Express, Geraldine Meade, said: “Education is the main focus of our new student project. Each student who takes part will visit our state-of-the-art Glasgow clinic for a half-day clinical session, offering a unique opportunity to experience our superior level of clinical excellence, advanced technologies and state-of-the-art equipment.”
