Pre-reg high

A record number of optometry graduates have joined Specsavers to complete their pre-reg period, the multiple has confirmed.

A total of 453 pre-reg optometrists have enrolled to complete their pre-reg placement with Specsavers, which marks their final steps to qualification.

Joint group CEO at Specsavers, Doug Perkins, said: “We’re honoured that over half of UK pre-registration optometry students have chosen Specsavers and obviously think it is a great place to work. The success of the programme is down to the commitment of the local directors, supervisors and the pre-reg’s themselves and is underpinned by the Specsavers promise to provide the best training possible for all our clinical staff.”

Ellen Torrance (pictured) will complete her pre-reg placement at Specsavers’ Inverness branch. The 22-year-old opted to do her per-reg with the multiple after completing a seven-week summer placement with the same practice in 2015.

Reflecting on her pre-reg placement to date, Ms Torrance said: “I’m really enjoying it and the store director has been so encouraging that I don’t feel intimidated to ask questions and check things.”
