Boots Opticians dozen reach mountain peak for charity
A team of Boots Opticians employees has successfully scaled Mount Kilimanjaro for VAO
22 July 2016
Boots Opticians has raised £39,000 for Vision Aid Overseas (VAO) through a fundraising mission that saw 12 employees fly to Tanzania and climb Mount Kilimanjaro.
The initiative was led by Boots Opticians senior development manager, Oliver Warner, who began organising the trip last year as part of VAO’s 30th anniversary.
Reflecting on the climbing challenge, Mr Warner said: “It feels like it has been a long time in the making, but it most definitely felt worthwhile arriving at the summit with the sun coming up and the whole team reaching the peak together.”
VAO confirmed that the funds raised by the Boots Opticians staff will help the charity continue to help children in Zambia who are left struggling academically due to a lack of access to eye care.
Practitioners who are interested in organising a company-sponsored VAO event should contact Andy Holliday by telephone on 01293 535 016 or by email.
