Two awards and a milestone birthday for Vision Express regional manager Niamh Cummins
15 July 2016
Vision Express regional manager, Niamh Cummins, has triple cause for celebration this month – she has won two awards and has her milestone 30th birthday this month.
Ms Cummins may have only just marked her first year as a regional manager for the multiple but took home two awards at its annual conference – ‘Regional Manager of the Year’ and ‘Region of the Year’.
She began her career in the profession working at her local opticians in her home town Waterford, Ireland, when she was just 15. She has worked at Vision Express for seven years, and in May 2015 was promoted to regional manager for the south west division, responsible for 24 stores.
In the past year, it has developed into one of the multiple’s most successful regions. The company said this is a reflection of her hard work and of the commitment and tenacity of the team. Ms Cummins described them as: “Fantastically hardworking people who are really engaged and motivated to achieve their targets.”
Ms Cummins left her home in Ireland in 2005 to take a place at Cambridge University, studying for a BSc (Hons) in optical management. Since then, she has managed Vision Express stores at Lakeside, Cardiff and the company’s flagship Oxford Street East practice in London.
Ms Cummins hopes her achievements will inspire the latest graduates of the Vision Express apprenticeship scheme.
“The best piece of advice I can offer to anyone going into a management role is to be conscientious and aware of the impact you have upon your team members, she said, adding: “This is really important to me so I make sure I speak to most of my 24 stores on a daily basis, or as often as possible, so we can all work together to perform the best we can.”
Vision Express retail operations director, Neil McGowan, said: “Our congratulations go to Niamh and everyone in the South West region. Their combined hard work and dedication really proved that if you put your mind to it, you really can achieve great things.
“Niamh has continued to prove herself as a fantastic team player and we’re overjoyed she’s received two such important accolades in her first year as regional manager,” he concluded.
