John Lewis opens its fourth in-store opticians

John Lewis has opened an opticians in its Bluewater department store. It is the fourth opticians that the company has opened in partnership with Luxottica in 16 months

John Lewis opened its fourth in-store opticians on Friday (12 February).

The opticians was opened in the department store’s Bluewater branch and is its largest practice to date.

John Lewis Opticians was established in October 2014 and has since been opened in John Lewis stores in Westfield Stratford, Cardiff and Kingston. Run in partnership with Luxottica, they feature the latest OCT equipment and brands including Giorgio Armani, Prada and Ray-Ban.

The Bluewater practice, which took just two months to build, includes two consulting rooms, a pre-testing area and a lab room. It employs two optometrists, a store manager, an assistant manager and up to six optical assistants.

Speaking to OT at the opening, head of product services for John Lewis, Richard Ambler, confirmed that the venture’s next focus would be to open practices in two new John Lewis stores in Leeds and Chelmsford this year.

Managing director of Luxottica Retail for Northern Europe, Richard Peck, added that the aim would be to operate around 20 in-store opticians, with at least four more planned to open in 2016.
