Health and beauty retailer Superdrug launched an online opticians called Superdrug Online Opticians on Monday (24 August).

The High Street business has established the online outlet with more than 900 styles of prescription glasses and sunglasses, which are priced at as little as £9. It labelled the venture “an exciting next step to expand the range of its health and wellbeing services.”

Superdrug has said that through the business it will offer a selection of low cost fashionable and traditional frames for men and women, with the aim of making prescription eyewear “more affordable and accessible to customers.”

Spectacles and sunglasses are ordered online and can be collected from any of the chain’s 800 UK stores, with free delivery available to customers spending over £25.

Every frame comes with single vision lenses and anti-reflection, UV and scratch resistant lens treatments. The company stated that customers could ‘upgrade’ their lenses to varifocals, bifocals and tints.

Ian Lloyd, head of healthcare services at Superdrug, commented: “At Superdrug we are constantly evolving our health and wellbeing offering to ensure we are meeting the needs of our customers.

“We are delighted to be the first High Street pharmacy to offer an online opticians service, providing affordable prescription glasses and sunglasses from a well-known brand customers can trust.”
