Multiple Specsavers has confirmed that it will invest £12m in a new manufacturing and distribution facility in Worcestershire.
The 75,000 square feet site in Kidderminster will create more than 200 jobs and combines two of the multiple’s existing operations in the town, International Glazing (SIG) and Lens Online (LO). The expansion will provide it with the potential to expand to meet the demands of “its growing order book.”
Director of manufacturing and distribution at Specsavers, Simon Holloway, said: “The growth of our business means that we have outgrown the current site. We were keen to keep the business in the local area to make sure we retain our skilled staff and, following a tender process, we decided on the Stourpoint Five site.
“As well as giving us room to grow, the new premises will be more modern, safer and allow us to provide better facilities for our staff and a better service to our customers.”
He added: “The expansion of the business will also create more jobs in the local area. We estimate that we’ll employ around 230 more people across the two businesses within five years of moving to the new site.”
