Silhouette launches virtual try-on tool

The tool will allow customers to try on different frames and styles, and will also direct them to their local stockist

Austrian eyewear brand, Silhouette, has launched an online tool to allow customers to virtually ‘try on’ the company’s range of eyewear and sunglasses.

As well as allowing customers to try out a variety of styles, the website will also direct customers to their local practice that stocks Silhouette frames.

The new service, which launched on 17 December, will be accessible 24/7 on Silhouette’s website.

With frames made-to-order and mostly by hand, the company said: “Some Silhouette frames are available in hundreds of combinations, with consumers able to elect the style, colour and lens shape that captures their personality and personal style.”

The service can be accessed with any laptop, smartphone or tablet with a camera. After selecting a style to try, the digital tool asks users to record a short video and take a picture of their face.

The smart camera will then “optimise” their face shape, size and features, in order to ensure that glasses are displayed at the right size.

Announcing the tool, the company said in a statement: “Silhouette is still dedicated, especially in the light of the pandemic, to supporting its opticians and local retailers.

“The brand-new tool, whilst leading customers directly to them, also shows the wide versatility of styles on offer online from the comfort of people’s homes – where we are spending increasing amounts of time.”
