“Unique” recycled metal frames from Modo win design award

The Eco FW19 Recycled metal collection won Gold at the iF Design Awards

The Eco FW19 Recycled metal collection from Modo has been awarded gold at the iF Design Awards.

The jury called the sustainable eyewear collection “unique in many ways,” as well as “modular, easily customisable and highly functional.”

They added that it is “a sensational eyewear product.”

Eyewear frames in the collection come with a hidden magnetic sun clip-on that transforms them into sunglasses.

There are five frames in the recycled collection, ranging from the round 'Cuba Clip-on' in gold to the 'Grenada Clip-on' in light blue and copper. There are a number of different colourways available for each frame.

Eco recycled frames are made with 95% recycled stainless steel and the sun clip-on is made with bio-based plastic, sourced from castor seeds.

Eco aims to help people choose sustainability, by creating products that are functional, innovative and attractive. Modo plants a tree for every one of its Eco frames that is sold.

Winners of the iF Design Awards 2020 were announced earlier this month (February). Awards will be presented in Berlin on 4 May.

The Eco range is available at numerous independent opticians in the UK
