Nikon Optical’s new managing director, Arnaud Dupont, tells OT  why it is an exciting time in the UK lens market

Congratulations on your appointment – what are you most looking forward to in your new role?

Thank you very much. The UK is a very exciting market, with opticians​ focused​ on ​creating a differential brand with high-quality vision care​, ​bespoke services​ and products. Nikon Optical UK plays a key role in supporting its customers to achieve this by underpinning all of the above with a trusted consumer brand, advanced technology and a service that is unrivalled in the industry​, as most of our lenses are made in the UK. I look forward to getting to know this market even better, and creating further opportunities for our customers.

Why is it an exciting time to join Nikon?

The growth and success of independent opticians is something I take seriously. Having been in charge of developing the Nikon brand globally for the past nine years, I have acquired experience in supporting the acceleration​ of​ business growth within independent opticians. 

I have recently spent time in Japan with ​a number of ​our key ​UK customers, and I can say that the UK is a very exciting and specific market that is currently re-inventing itself. Nikon Optical UK has been building up the foundations in order to take this turn and support our customers even better. The next steps are to activate this support further in 2018 and beyond. So, it is definitely a very exciting time.

What areas has Nikon identified for development?

We really want to strengthen our support and​ be an extension of the businesses we are working with. That is why we are investing in three key areas that we think will have the most​ impact for our customers: 

  1. Professional service support: To optimise the recommendation and visibility of lens vision solutions in store via training and merchandising
  2. New product technologies and local production: To ensure independent opticians offer best quality services and differentiated products
  3. Nikon brand visibility: For our customers to communicate their differentiation.

What can we expect from Nikon in the next six to 12 months?

We have a service that is unrivalled in the industry and we will further reinforce it by improving lead time, bespoke marketing and training support. We will also be launching new services and expect exciting new products to be announced soon.
