Essilor begins Varilux X Series production in the UK

Essilor has announced that its flagship Varilux X Series lens is now being produced at its UK manufacturing facility, which is based in Thornbury.

Essilor UK managing director, Mike Kirkley, said: “I was delighted to witness the first official order being made in Thornbury. This event generated a lot of excitement for the business because product demand has grown at an unprecedented rate.”

Since the Varilux X Series lens was launched in May, it has outsold its predecessor, the Varilux S series, and “is a firm favourite” with Essilor customers, Mr Kirkley confirmed.

“Having production capability for our Varilux X Series in Thornbury is a vote of confidence for local manufacturing and confirms our commitment to our long-term UK strategy,” he added.
