This year international frames and lens manufacturer Rodenstock celebrates its 140th  anniversary.

Established by Josef Rodenstock (pictured) in Wuzburg, Germany in 1877, the self-made businessman created the first modern-day framed spectacles. Since then the company has continued to innovate, it says, continually advancing the products that it produces. This can be seen most recently through the creation of its 100% customisable progressive lens with DNEye technology.

Marking the milestone anniversary, Rodenstock has released a limited edition frame called the 'Masterpiece,' which is designed to reflect a "timeless and elegant style," Rodenstock shared.

Commenting on Rodenstock's achievements over the years, CEO, Oliver Kastalio, said: "Today Rodenstock employs people in more than 85 countries, and the opticians who we work closely with contribute to what we do and make it possible for each customer to have the best vision and look."

In addition, the company has released a 180-page book that contains a number of previously unpublished pictures and shares stories about its technical and cultural history.
