Zoobug London and Mondottica form strategic partnership

First international children’s eyewear division to be created

British children’s eyewear specialist Zoobug London and Mondottica have announced a strategic partnership and the creation of a dedicated international children’s eyewear division, under the guidance of eye surgeon and Zoobug founder, Dr Julie Diem Le, as director.

The partnership involves a long-term license and services agreement and represents an opportunity to expand Mondottica’s fast-growing portfolio of children’s collections, which currently includes Joules, Pepe Jeans and Ted Baker Kids.

Mondottica said it would also demonstrate its complete commitment to children’s eye health and the future growth of the eyewear sector.

Zoobug’s sunglasses and optical collections for boys and girls will be distributed worldwide by Mondottica as part of the agreement, with immediate effect. The agreement is also expected to increase the brand’s presence in the UK, Europe, US, Asia, Australia and Latin America.

Dr Diem Le will continue to oversee the distribution to leading international fashion retailers including Harrods, Fenwicks, LVR in Italy, Kids 21 in Singapore and Harvey Nichols in Hong Kong.

Zoobug London, which launched in 2006, has pioneered the development of eyewear designed specifically for children over the last decade. Dr Le introduced a range of innovations in frames designed for infants, at a time when the selection and quality of sunglasses and optical frames for children up to the age of 12 was very limited.

Dr Diem Le said: “Zoobug is delighted to join Mondottica as a strategic partner in the creation of a world-class children’s eyewear division, the first of its kind at the forefront of children’s eyewear research and development.”

Dr Diem Le added: “This is also a great opportunity to grow the Zoobug brand through Mondottica’s established global distribution network and strengthen its position as a key innovator in the children’s marketplace, alongside the fast-expanding portfolio of licensed fashion and lifestyle brands that Mondottica has built in recent years.”

Mondottica founder, Michael Jardine, said: “We are extremely happy to welcome Zoobug and Dr Diem Le to the Mondottica family. Children’s sunglasses and ophthalmic eyewear is a growing segment for us and now we have this wonderful opportunity for synergy.”

Mr Jardine added: “Mondottica will provide Zoobug with our global infrastructure, manufacturing resources and distribution and in turn we have the medical expertise of Dr Le in developing infant and children’s eyewear.

“In addition, we have the opportunity to see key Mondottica brands accompany Zoobug into what has been until now unexplored territory for us, which is the global children’s industry.”
