John Weiss & Son to integrate into Haag-Streit UK

John Weiss will remain an established product brand but will integrate with its sister company from January 2022 with distribution arrangements transferring to Haag-Streit UK

John Weiss & Son will be integrated into its sister company, Haag-Streit UK (HS-UK) from 1 January 2022.

The product brand will be retained, with HS-UK suggesting, “after 230 years, naturally, John Weiss will remain an established product brand.” However, the business will no longer be an incorporated legal entity and will cease to trade as John Weiss & Son on 31 December 2021.

There are no planned changes regarding the continuity of product supply and there will also be no variation to the current operational or staffing structure, the company confirmed. Distributors and customers will continue to deal with the same point of contact.

HS-UK will become the exclusive UK distributor of the John Weiss range of ophthalmic micro-surgical instruments, and procedures and implants.

Dean Johnson, CEO of John Weiss & Son and Haag-Streit UK, described the plans as “extremely positive, with the formation of two ophthalmic divisions; diagnostic and surgical.

“This will give HS-UK the opportunity to provide a ‘one-stop-shop’ to ophthalmic professionals, enabling us to build on the John Weiss legacy.”

The company will take over the sole UK distributor agreements for the Haag-Streit Surgical microscope range, the Haag-Streit Simulation medical simulator portfolio, the Nova Eye iTrack canaloplasty microcatheter and the Meridian 810 shortpulse laser.

HS-UK will also be appointed as UK distributor for the portfolio of John Weiss & Son’s partnered brands. This includes businesses such as: Feather ophthalmic scalpels, blades and holders, Keraring corneal ring segments, MedOne vitreoretinal cannulae, and Heine primary diagnostic instruments.

Existing service contracts purchased from John Weiss & Son will be fulfilled by the HS-UK Service Division, and any future contracts or renewals will automatically be provided by the service.
