Essilor has named Alan Pitcher as its new commercial director, tasked with driving business solutions supporting growth for independent optometrists.
Mr Pitcher has a background in the health sector, spending 15 years working with orthopaedic medical devices to improve patient care and provider profitability.
Discussing his new role, Mr Pitcher outlined that his short-term focus will be “engaging with, understanding and helping ECPs navigate the new normal around COVID-19.”
“Much will undoubtedly change in this industry in the coming years, but I’m driven to see lens volumes return to pre-crisis levels and see key brands return to monthly growth before year-end,” Mr Pitcher commented. “More than anything, that level of recovery would indicate a prosperous return to business for our ECP partners.”
In his former role, Mr Pitcher was involved in driving forward the merits of surgical robotics, something sought both by orthopaedic surgeons for their patients and by hospital management.
Tim Precious, managing director at Essilor, welcomed Mr Pitcher as a “solid addition” to the team, adding that he will “undoubtedly drive the business forward and support ECP growth as part of our promise to be their best business partner.”
