Sales manager at Topcon, Andrew Brandi, will walk the entire South West coast path to mark his 60th birthday while raising money for Vision Care for Homeless People.
The 630-mile walk is the longest National Trail and will take 46 days, with Mr Brandi averaging 13 miles per day.
He will start at Minehead in Somerset and walk along the coastline finishing at Poole harbour on his birthday.
In order to help Mr Brandi achieve his goal, Topcon has given him extended leave from work.
Speaking about the challenge, Mr Brandi said: “It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, but just seemed unattainable until now. I feel very fortunate and grateful to Topcon for letting me make this lifelong goal a reality.”
