Mainline Instruments has launched Optomed Aurora, a hand-held retinal imaging device.

It provides a 50° field of view, a four-inch colour screen and easy to operate user interface, according to the Birmingham-based company.

Designed with fundus imaging technology and a non-mydriatic retinal camera to screen for diabetic retinopathy, the Optomed Aurora also features dual charger technology for improved battery life.

Director of Mainline Instruments, Simon Hawkins, said: “Diabetes is a growing concern in the UK and can result in vision loss, but early screening can help to prevent visual impairment. Having technology that is easily accessible, such as the Optomed Aurora, ensures that more people can prevent losing their vision.

“Due to this, we’re confident that the Optomed Aurora will prove extremely useful in the market and could be a game changer for our customers.”
