Practice management software company Optix has released its latest update package that includes tools that aim to support practices in becoming GDPR compliant.

The upgrade to version 5.5 of the practice management support system was made available to customers earlier this month.

Coinciding with the upgrade, Optix has issued GDPR guidance to support its users, which also details how some of the new functionality can help them in meeting the new guidelines that will be introduced on 25 May.

The seven-page document aims to answer key questions such as what types of permissions you need to send marketing material, clinical messages and individual messages to patients, what the requirements are around allowing patients to opt-out, and restrictions around ongoing marketing.

For us GDPR compliance extends way beyond simply ensuring that the Optix infrastructure fully conforms to the new regulations. We have invested heavily to develop an extensive tool set within Optix, allowing opticians using our system to meet their obligations under GDPR, whilst improving the service they can offer.OT:Speaking about the upgrade, managing director of Optix, Trevor Rowley, told

A total 380 Optix customers attended the company’s annual conference at Celtic Manor in Newport in March and received a demo of the new features ahead of this month’s upgrade.

The update also features the AOP's patient resources, which includes patient leaflets and 60 second advice videos.

The guidance can be found on the Optix website.
