Topcon ends i-Clarity distribution agreement
The optical supplier will no longer support the development of the practice management system
09 January 2018
Topcon GB has announced that it has ended the distribution agreement for the i-Clarity practice management system after five years.
Managing director of Topcon GB, Andy Yorke, explained that recent events such as Brexit, as well as internal events, have led the company to review its business.
“I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that we must re-focus our resources on our traditional and core business of ophthalmic instrumentation and intra-ocular lenses,” he said.
The system will now be marketed, sold and supported by i-Clarity developers, Business Measurement Ltd.
Managing director and founder of Business Measurement, Rob Ward (pictured), said that Topcon had done a “fantastic job” of establishing the system in the UK.
Mr Ward added that he respected Topcon’s decision, and looked forward to Business Measurement taking responsibility for supporting existing and potential users of i-Clarity.
“Our new independent status means that we can develop and market links to other manufacturer’s equipment as well,” he explained, adding: “This, combined with the fact that i-Clarity is already the most comprehensive system on the market today, means that the reality of a fully integrated, paperless practice is now available to all UK opticians, no matter whose instruments they favour.”
