The Eye Doctor award win proves a tonic for family firm

Innovation accolade for heat mask increases recognition and impresses customers, particularly abroad

The Body Doctor company has seen increased recognition and business since it won its first Queen’s Award for Enterprise in April for developing the Eye Doctor compress.

The eyelid heat mask for the relief of various eye conditions, including blepharitis and dry eye disease, won the Queen’s Award in the innovation category.

Managing director, Sue Grant, told OT: “Winning the Queens Award has brought recognition from a range of businesses that we had not typically considered as potential customers before, and has opened the door to additional customers.

“It was wonderful to receive so many best wishes and messages of support from our existing customers. It reaffirmed just how accepted we have become within the industry.”

She added: “All of our customers both here and abroad are very impressed. In particular, our overseas customers from the USA, Canada, Japan and the United Arab Emirates have been incredibly enthusiastic about the award and promote it widely in all of their advertising materials.”

The family-run business, which is based in Huddersfield, has also seen increased recognition in optics.

“The optical profession regularly congratulates us on our win,” said Ms Grant. She added: “Overall, this award reinforces our ethics and standards that we apply to our product range and the service we offer to our customers.”

An important milestone for the company was in 2015 when it showcased the Eye Doctor to the profession at 100% Optical. TV presenter Dr Hilary Jones also contacted the company with positive feedback.

He attended this year’s 100% Optical (6–8 February, London ExCeL) to support the company and its products in person. “The Eye Doctor is a simple and effective, reusable solution in treating a wide range of eye conditions,” said Dr Jones.
