More than 270 practices registered for Love Your Lenses Week (13 to 19 June), reminding patients of the importance of safe and comfortable contact lens wear.

Organised by the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA), the awareness week focused on compliance and good contact lens hygiene. The global campaign also emphasised the importance of regular eye examinations and only purchasing lenses from regulated suppliers.

The 2022 campaign, supported by CooperVision as champion sponsor, saw a 20% increase in the number of practices registering to take part, with international participants joining from Australia, America, Greece and Italy.

The campaign also gained a reach of over 250,000 across social media, reporting hundreds of mentions on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.

Eye care professionals engaged in the campaign through the #LoveYourLenses hashtag, by putting up posters in practice, and wearing the official t-shirts.

Luke Stevens-Burt, chief executive of the BCLA, commented: “We were delighted to build on the success of last year’s campaign.”

“Love Your Lenses Week is an opportunity to remind patients of the importance of happy and healthy contact lens wear and a chance to give simple, practical advice such as ‘no water’ messaging to ensure compliance and create good long-term habits,” he said.

AOS Advanced Ophthalmic Systems backed the awareness week as associate sponsor, alongside supporter-level sponsors: Eyes Are The Story, Menicon, Johnson & Johnson Vision, Bausch & Lomb and Hakim Group.
