Contact lens manufacturer, Menicon, has launched a multifocal version of its Miru 1day Flat Pack contact lens, the Flat Pack Multifocal.

This marks the first time the manufacturer has released a contact lens for presbyopia in the UK market, and also completes Menicon’s Flat Pack lens range, which already hosts sphere and toric options.

Menicon said the contact lens has been designed to be easy to use for both new wearers and patients moving from single vision lenses.

The new product features a Neuro Adaptive design, which aims to provide “easy adaptation” and smooth transitions through near, intermediate and far viewing.

The thin bi-aspheric design of the contact lens also enhances comfort and visual quality, the company suggested, “providing some extended depth of focus and sophisticated aberration control.”

Menicon’s disposable soft lens multifocal calculator has been updated to include the new product.

Kevin Mitchell, managing director of Menicon UK, said: “We are delighted to add new products in our 70th anniversary year and the multifocal lens completes the Flat Pack family. It offers eye care professionals a great solution to those patients diagnosed with presbyopia who want to wear a daily lens who perhaps previously were limited.”

The product is provided in Menicon’s SmartTouch packaging, a 1mm thick container designed to ensure the patient only touches the outer surface of the lens.

Mitchell added: “Health and hygiene have been front of mind for us all over the past year and the SmartTouch technology makes the lens easier to handle for a cleaner, more comfortable wear.”

The power range for the new multifocal contact lens includes +4.00D to -6.00D (-0.25D steps) and -6.50D to -10.00D (-0.50D steps).
