Alcon has launched Air Optix plus HydraGlyde multifocal contact lenses for presbyopic patients.

The monthly silicone hydrogel lens is designed to attract and maintain surface moisture throughout the day using Alcon’s SmartShield technology.

Business unit head of vision care at Alcon, Ray Pasko, said: “There is a huge potential for all of us in helping the over 40s age group adapt to lenses especially for cases of presbyopia. All the misconceptions, myths and experiences that there are about wearing contact lenses can be overcome by educating clients and showing them there are a range of choices available when it comes to contact lenses.”

He added that the company are supporting practitioners with training and starter kits to provide what is needed to fit multifocal content lenses, as well as videos and handbooks to help understand presbyopia.
