Johnson & Johnson Vision has launched its Acuvue fitting calculator, which is an online tool to help practitioners fit its multifocal contact lenses.

The calculator has been designed to simplify the contact lens fitting process for patients with presbyopia by enabling practitioners to quickly identify the right match by following three steps.

Practitioners can enter information of the best vision sphere or subjective refraction, sensory dominance and lowest near add.

Senior director of worldwide professional affairs at Johnson & Johnson Vision, John Meyler, explained that despite the increasing availability of multifocal contact lens options, patients with presbyopia remain underrepresented.

“We hope that the simplicity of the Acuvue fitting calculator helps eye care professionals offer a solution to patients that they may not have considered before. Technological advances in multifocal lens designs means that there are more options for patients than ever before, and we want to make the fitting process as easy as possible for opticians,” Mr Meyler said.

Based on technology released in 2015, each of the 183 pupil-optimised designs of the lens were created to match natural pupil variants, which vary with add and refraction combinations. It also provides an enhancement for distance and near.

The calculator is available now in the UK and will be available in other European, Middle Eastern and African markets in the first half of 2019.
