Alcon announces astigmatism event

Alcon has announced a new education event for optometrists and contact lens opticians that will be focused on managing astigmatism.

Taking place over a day at the Alcon Academy for Eye Care Excellence in Camberley, the course includes skills workshops, peer discussions and lectures with a total of 8 CET points available.

Head of professional affairs at Alcon, Jonathon Bench, said: “The latest addition to our education calendar demonstrates our continued passion in supporting and educating eye care professionals.

“The new course, Managing Astigmatism, offers optometrists the chance to learn about a familiar, yet important, topic, enabling them to develop both their skills and their contact lens business.”

Morning sessions will explore the different forms of astigmatism and what ocular conditions and pathologies are associated with it, with a peer discussion also taking place.

The afternoon’s skills workshop will ask delegates to consider who, when and how they choose to fit toric contact lenses and how to assess and measure astigmatism in contact lens fitting.

A session on exploring how practitioners would assess and manage various astigmatic patients in a range of cases will also take place.

Optometrists who want to book a place on the course should contact their Alcon business development manager.
