Johnson & Johnson Vision Care Companies (J&J) has today (26 May) announced Olympian Katarina Johnson-Thompson as a brand ambassador for its Acuvue Oasys 1-Day contact lenses.
The athlete, who specialises in the heptathlon, has joined forces with the company in order to share her experiences of how wearing contact lenses has positively impacted on both her sporting performance and personal life.
The contact lens manufacturer believes that Ms Johnson-Thompson is the perfect choice to represent its Acuvue Oasys 1-Day brand because “she has the hectic and demanding lifestyle that these lenses were specifically developed for.”
As an astigmat, the track and field athlete has been fitted with Acuvue Oasys 1-Day for Astigmatism lenses, ahead of the product's official launch in the UK next week (1 June).
The new contact lens, which J&J says has been designed to offer excellent comfort and consistent, clear and stable vision all day long, combines Innovative HydraLuxe technology with Eyelid Stabilised Design.
On its release, the contact lens will be available in more stock parameters for astigmats than any other daily disposable toric soft lenses.
Speaking about her experiences with the new contact lens, Ms Johnson-Thompson said: “My vision is so important, I couldn’t be a heptathlete without my contact lenses, basically I wouldn’t be able to get over the first hurdle. However, when I tried these lenses I instantly noticed the difference, I felt like my vision was sharper even though it’s the same prescription.”
Reflecting on what the best thing about wearing Acuvue Oasys 1-Day for Astigmatism is, the 24-year-old added: “They allow me to perform, they allow me to be free, and to be myself.”
J&J group brand manager, Katie McGeechan, said: “With this new product development, Acuvue is able to provide patients like Katarina, who have astigmatism, with the unbeaten comfort of the Acuvue Oasys brand.”
The full campaign launches this summer to coincide with the World Athletics Championships in August.
