AOP Award success for Alcon

Company celebrates recognition of Dailies Total1 Multifocal in new Product of the Year category

Alcon Product of the Year AOP Award winners

Alcon is celebrating that Dailies Total1 Multifocal contact lens won the AOP Award for Product of the Year.

The winners of the AOP Awards 2017 were revealed in front of more than 250 guests at a ceremony in London held at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre during 100% Optical (5 February).

Dailies Total1 Multifocal was launched last September and is the first and only water gradient multifocal contact lens for presbyopia.

It is designed to address end-of-day dryness and discomfort while providing a seamless visual experience, according to the company.

The water gradient material reduces end-of-day dryness as the water content approaches 100% at the outermost surface of the lens. In addition, the hydrophilic surface gel of the lens is almost as soft as the human corneal epithelium.

SmarTears features phosphatidylcholine, an ingredient found in natural tears that is eluted into the tear film when needed to help address contact lens-related dryness through lipid layer stabilisation.

The multifocal contact lenses are available with a power range of +6.00D to -10.00D, in 0.25D steps, and three ADD powers.

The Product of the Year is a new AOP Award category and nominees are chosen solely by the profession, with voting open exclusively to AOP members.

The accolade is designed to give those in the profession the chance to celebrate product innovations that have improved their practice and patient care.

Alcon UK and Ireland’s business unit head of vision care, Ray Pasko, said: “It is an honour to receive this award from the Association of Optometrists. To gain such recognition from the eye care professionals with whom we work every day is humbling.”
