Bausch & Lomb (B+L) UK has confirmed a voluntary recall of its EasySept Hydro+ Peroxide Solution in Europe.

The contact lens and solutions company emphasised: “Although this voluntary recall represents low risk to the consumer and is unlikely to cause serious health consequences, the company chose to initiate this voluntary action as a precautionary measure as part of its ongoing commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.”

It added: “Additionally, there have been no reports of adverse incidents in relation to this voluntary recall.”

A statement from B+L explained: “The company chose to initiate this voluntary recall based on internal testing that simulated normal product use. Testing showed occasional occurrences where the residual peroxide remaining in the lens case after neutralisation did not meet product specification.”

It added: “EasySept Hydro+ Peroxide Solution is unlikely to cause serious health consequences. If the residual hydrogen peroxide is above product specification the user of the product could experience symptoms of burning, stinging sensation, irritation and/or red eye.”

The regulatory body, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has been notified of the voluntary recall.

All customers, including eye care professionals and retailers, who have purchased the solution have been contacted directly by B+L. The recall is of the 120ml EasySept Hydro+ Starter Kit, the 360ml EasySept Hydro+ Peroxide Solution and the 3x360ml EasySept Hydro+ Peroxide Solution.

Tesco announced the product recall from its stores across the country, which was reported in the Daily Mail (14 November).
