Why has J&J decided to extend the Oasys brand?
As with all our lenses, we start with identifying patients’ needs, both in terms of physiology and lifestyle. Through these insights we realised that many eye care professionals wanted this material in a daily disposable modality for many of their patients who require this convenience.
What are the main benefits of the new contact lens?
The new lenses are intended to offer outstanding performance throughout the day for both new and existing contact lens wearers. As well as being comfortable, they are easy for new wearers to handle and can be removed easily. The optic zone is large, to provide pupil coverage in low light conditions, and the packaging solution has been optimised to ensure great comfort on insertion.
Comfort is always key to contact lens wear, how does this contact lens address this?
We know patients are busy and experience a variety of environments throughout their day, which can disrupt the stability of the tear film. Acuvue Oasys 1-Day features a new technology, HydraLuxe, which is an enhanced network of tear-like molecules that mimic mucins in the tear film helping to support a stable tear film.
Who is the main target audience for the new contact lens?
We feel this lens is perfectly suited to new and existing patients alike who experience busy, demanding days, and a variety of daily environments. For many patients, a typical day can involve the train, the gym, air-conditioned offices and regular digital device use, all of which can impact the stability of the tear film. Should practitioner upgrade their existing contact lens patients to this new product?
If a patient is happy in their current lens and the product meets the patient’s specific needs there may be no reason to offer a new lens. However, if the patient leads a busy lifestyle, or has comfort-related issues, Acuvue Oasys 1-Day is a fantastic option for the practitioner to reach for.
