Following the successful launch of its free app, OptiExpert, last year, CooperVision has updated the tool to feature a multifocal calculator.
Described by the company as ‘putting a clinical expert in your pocket,’ practitioners can simply input their patient’s prescription to view a list of all the suitable CooperVision multifocal lenses for easy comparison.
Available to download for mobile and tablet devices, the tool is said to help make multifocal calculations effortless and efficient, as well as “helping to lighten practitioners’ workload whilst bringing fitting rooms into the digital age.”
To use the tool, practitioners enter their patient’s sphere, add powers and cyl, and select the dominant eye, then the app generates suitable product recommendations. Covering both daily disposable and monthly reusable contact lenses, suggestions include the CooperVision product ranges, Biofinity, clariti and Proclear.
A help icon displayed at each stage gives the user guidance on what to input, as well as further information on the contact lenses themselves.
The new extension builds on the app’s existing functionality which features the renowned Efron Grading Scales. Enabling practitioners to grade patients against 16 sets of images of increasing severity, OptiExpert’s visual representation helps patients understand the importance of their practitioner’s recommendation.
The additional ability to securely store images and comments enables a comprehensive record of each patient’s condition to be compiled alongside any treatment prescribed.
