Johnson & Johnson Vision Care (J&J) will launch its new 1-Day Acuvue Moist Multifocal contact lenses this month at the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) clinical conference and exhibition (29–31 May, ACC Liverpool).

The new contact lens has been developed based on insights into the changes in the presbyopic eye and feature ‘Eye-Inspired’ design, according to J&J.

Marcella McParland, J&J’s director of professional affairs for the UK and Ireland, explained that 1-Day Acuvue Moist Multifocal is specifically designed for the natural shape and function of the presbyopic eye, to help practitioners continue to provide patients with “an excellent vision experience.”

Ms McParland added: “The lens also comes with all the benefits of the 1-Day Acuvue Moist contact lens family, including the proven etafilcon A material, so we are very excited to offer practitioners the opportunity to try this new lens for the first time.”

Delegates to the BCLA exhibition will have the opportunity to experience the new contact lenses first hand on stand 44.

In addition, J&J experts who were integral to the product’s design, Kurt Moody, director of the research and development presbyopia global platform, and Tom Karkkainen, senior principal research optometrist, will be on the stand to discuss the unique technology behind the new contact lenses on 29 May at 4pm, 30 May at 10.30am, and 31 May at 1.30pm.

Also on the stand will be the Eye Define Studio, a digital-imaging experience which analyses the user’s eyes and provides detailed personalised recommendations on how they can enhance their eyes’ natural beauty. It will be supported by tips from professional make-up artist, Selen Hurer, and the opportunity to trial the recently launched 1-Day Acuvue Define eye-enhancing contact lenses.

Delegates will also find a digital pledge wall on the stand where they will be able to share their experiences of making a difference in their patients’ lives and what has inspired them as a practitioner.

Clinical presentations

To help BCLA delegates find out more about the benefits and advanced technologies of Acuvue brand contact lenses, there will be a number of scientific and partner sponsor presentations from J&J throughout the conference.

On Saturday (30 May) at 3.30pm Marcella McParland, Kurt Moody and optometrist Simon Donne will provide insight on the comfort, vision performance and health benefits of the new 1-Day Acuvue Moist Multifocal.

On Sunday (31 May) at 9am: Deborah Laughton, James Wolffsohn, and Peter Ivins will host an educational session on Presybiopia A-Z and everything inbetween.

Later at 11.45am there will be an informal lunchtime pavilion discussion hosted by Ian Pyzer, J&J’s professional affairs manager for the UK and Ireland, who will host a hands-on session about fitting 1-Day Acuvue Moist Multifocal.

Also that day, at 1pm, Ian Davies and John Meyler from the company’s global professional affairs team will discuss the cutting-edge contact lens technologies that are changing patients’ lives all over the world.

Additionally, three scientific posters will be presented on the clinical performance and science of the new 1-Day Acuvue Moist Multifocal. They will cover visual acuity performance across different near ADD powers with a new multifocal daily disposable lens, evaluation of the visual performance and the impact of refractive error. The effects of age and refraction on pupil size and visual acuity, plus implications for multifocal contact lens design and fitting will also feature.

J&J has been a supporter of the BCLA conference and exhibition for more than 25 years.
