Fight for Sight has announced the appointment of a deputy CEO and two new directors.

The charity’s new deputy CEO, the first in its history, is Ikram Dahman.

Dahman has been with Fight for Sight for four years. She had recently taken on the role of interim CEO.

She will be responsible for developing the charity’s new impact-led strategy, and will also lead on stakeholder engagement, public affairs, and brand marketing.

The eye care charity has also welcomed Dr Madina Kara as its new director of research and innovation and Ranjeet Kharé BEM as director of development.

Kara previously worked at the National Institute for Health and Care Research and the Stroke Association, and has expertise in research, policy and innovation, and health and care research funding.

She said that she is “delighted” to be joining Fight for Sight, and that personal awareness of sight loss made her acutely aware of the challenges faced.

She added: “I’m determined to continue Fight for Sight’s work to support pioneering research and hasten new therapies for the millions of people who are affected by sight loss.”

Kharé, Fight for Sight’s new director of development, has 15 years of experience in the voluntary sector, has also worked in the media, and was recently awarded the British Empire Medal for her voluntary contribution during COVID-19.

The senior appointments come after the charity’s new CEO, Keith Valentine, began his role in January.

On the new appointments, Valentine said: “I’m thrilled to be completing our executive leadership team with the appointment of Ikram, Madina and Ranjeet at this exciting time. They bring with them considerable expertise and talent and all care as deeply as I do about ending sight loss.”

Dahman, the charity’s new deputy CEO, added: “I’m passionate about Fight for Sight’s sight-saving research and feel privileged to continue our fight to accelerate new discoveries and treatments for sight loss conditions, at the outset of our exciting new strategy.”
