Edmonds & Slatter reflects on its charity partnership

“By supporting charities in our local area… you have first-hand knowledge of the changes and support you have been able to assist within the local community”

Edmonds & Slatter Opticians has celebrated its partnership with local charity, The Bodie Hodges Foundation, in a year that saw the group raise over £1600 for the organisation.

Formed in 2012, the charity supports families who have been bereaved of a child of any age. It aims promote organ donation, and to provide counselling services and a retreat for families through Bodie’s Boathouse.

The optical group began supporting The Bodie Hodges Foundation in 2020, “not knowing how different the year would turn out to be,” Amy Coleburne, marketing and PR, and domiciliary clinic manager for Edmonds and Slatter Opticians. She highlighted the pressures of the pandemic on “higher-than-normal need for financial support in the charity sector.”

Edmonds & Slatter supported the charity through a number of fundraising events in 2021; participating in the foundation’s events and also taking part in the Blaby Bunny Hop and Reindeer Round Up.

The team also organised its own events, such as the annual golf day hosted by Saagar Hirani, partner and optometrist at Edmonds & Slatter Opticians, raising more money than the previous year. Festive raffles rounded off the year of fundraising.

The practice group reflected: “Throughout 2021, we are proud to say that with the support of our patients, suppliers and staff, we have been able to send The Bodie Hodges Foundation a total of £1697 to help them continue their fantastic and supportive work.”

“It means a great deal that we can support local families who are assisted by charities such as The Bodie Hodges Foundation,” Coleburne said. “By supporting charities in our local area, you can literally see where the fundraising has gone and have first-hand knowledge of the changes and support you have been able to assist within the local community.”

The practice group hopes to be able to host more fundraising events in 2022 to support its chosen charity.
