Valli Opticians in Huddersfield has announced plans to host its fourth annual charity walk in aid of the Kirklees Visual Impairment Network (KVIN) as a virtual event.

The fundraiser, Valli Rally 2020, will take place during National Eye Health Week (21-27 September). In a departure from previous years where participants met for a countryside trek, the event will be run as a virtual sponsored walk.

The independent practice aims to raise £7500 for KVIN by walking a collective 2020 miles and has called for individuals and businesses across Huddersfield to get involved.

Moin Valli, managing director at Valli Opticians and vice chair at KVIN, said of the plans: “The walk is accessible for all and not just for people living in Kirklees, and we’re hoping this will mean we are able to raise more than we did last year.

“You can do the walk in your local area, in your back garden or even on a treadmill in your living room.”

To join the virtual event, participants need to sign up and pledge how far they plan to walk to help meet the goal of walking 2020 miles. Entry for the rally costs £10.

Rachel Valli, marketing director, commented: “At Valli Rally 2019, over 100 people joined us throughout the day and we raised £6,700 for KVIN so we’re looking forward to signing up more people to help raise even more money this year.”

Established in 2008, KVIN is a user-led organisation providing emotional and peer support, and which aims to help people with visual impairments learn to effectively use and make the most of technology and apps, such as Amazon Alexa and Google Home.
