Dispensing optician Dylan Russell will run his first marathon next month to raise funds for the Macular Society.
Mr Russell, who works at Boots Opticians in Edinburgh where he is also assistant manager, will take part in the Edinburgh marathon on 26 May.
Mr Russell said he decided to take part in the 26.2-mile challenge after seeing the impact that sight loss can have on people’s lives.
He explained: “I’ve seen both ends of the spectrum. Those who have been recently diagnosed, struggling to deal with the shock, trying to understand what their future looks like and how they will cope. Then those who are further along the emotional journey who believe that there is nothing that can be done to help them with their vision and have retreated within themselves.”
The dispensing optician hopes that the money he raises will support the charity to fund research into macular disease and provide resources for those diagnosed with the condition.
