Vision Care for Homeless People (VCHP) is calling on the profession to get involved with fundraising for the charity this summer.
The charity, which provides free eye care and spectacles to homeless people, has highlighted bungee jumping, Tough Mudders, 10k runs and cycling as ways people and businesses can get involved, while also challenging themselves.
Optometrist and chair of VCHP, Elaine Styles, is a keen cyclist and has raised thousands of pounds for the charity through endurance cycles such as riding from Land’s End to John O’Groats and peddling the Trans Pyrenean Raid, which covers 430 miles from Biarritz to Perpignan in France.
She said: “Encouraging work mates and pushing your boundaries brings a great sense of camaraderie and pulling together. We are encouraging all optical businesses to explore this idea. Through sponsorship, the adventures can be a great awareness and fund raiser for charity.”
